CHESAPEAKE REQUIEM is an intimate look at the island’s past, present and tenuous future, by an acclaimed journalist who lived among Tangier’s people, crabbed and oystered with its watermen, and observed its long traditions and odd ways. What emerges is the poignant tale of a world that has, quite nearly, gone by—and a leading-edge report on the coming fate of countless coastal communities.

Earl Swift has written six previous books, including Auto Biography, The Big Roads (a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice), and Where They Lay (a PEN finalist). His time on Tangier has been featured in Outside’s June 2018 and Garden and Gun's August issues. He has written about the Chesapeake region for thirty years, and has circumnavigated the bay by kayak. Since 2012, Swift has been a residential fellow of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities at the University of Virginia.
